Understanding Your Hexagon Garage Lighting Specs

Choosing the right hexagon lighting kit starts with understanding what the numbers actually mean for your space. Here’s how to apply our specifications to your installation:

Lumens: How Bright Is Bright Enough?

Lumens measure total light output. For garage and workshop applications, the general benchmark is 50–100 lumens per square foot for general work, and 100–150 lumens per square foot for detail or precision work areas.

Our kits deliver between 23,040 lumens (small workshop) and 547,360+ lumens (large warehouse), giving you professional-grade illumination across any footprint.

Space Type

Recommended Lumens

Hex Kit Size

Small workshop / 1-car

44,000–66,000 lm

6.8×10 ft – 8×15.7 ft

Standard 2-car

80,000–100,000 lm

11.8×15.7 ft

Auto detail bay

88,000–120,000 lm

10×20 ft

Showroom / commercial

165,000–310,000+ lm

20×20 ft – 30×40 ft

Color Temperature Guide

Color temperature (measured in Kelvins) determines the warmth or coolness of your light. Here’s how each option performs:

·         3000K (Warm White) — Soft, inviting light. Best for home gyms, entertainment garages, lounge areas.

·         4000K (Neutral White) — Clean, balanced light. Excellent for general garage work and retail display.

·         5000K (Daylight) — Bright, natural-looking light. Popular for detail shops and professional workshops.

·         6500K (Cool Daylight) — Highest clarity, reveals true color. Preferred for automotive detailing and paint work.

·         RGB — Full-spectrum color. For showrooms, brand-forward spaces, and creative environments.

IP Ratings Explained

Our lights carry IP54 ratings:

·         The first digit (6 or 5) measures dust protection — 6 = fully dust-tight; 5 = dust protected

·         The second digit (4) measures moisture protection — protected against water splashing from any direction

This rating makes our lights suitable for garages, covered workshops, and commercial environments exposed to dust and occasional moisture.

Power & Efficiency

Our LED arrays operate at 120 lumens per watt — a high-efficiency rating that significantly reduces operating costs compared to fluorescent or HID alternatives. Dimmable models reduce power consumption by 40–70% when dimmed, without sacrificing color quality.

Input Voltage: AC 100–240V standard (277V available on request for commercial installations)

Frequently Asked Questions — Specifications

Can I use these lights with a standard wall dimmer?

No — our dimmable lights use a built-in 3-stage switch (100%, 60%, 30%) and require our specific dimming mechanism. They are not compatible with standard triac wall dimmers.

Only — our low voltage system can be controlled with a compatible dimmer switch

What does the 277V option mean for commercial clients?

277V models are designed for commercial electrical systems that run on 277V single-phase power, common in commercial and industrial buildings. They require a single electrical hookup with standard commercial wiring.

How long do the lights last?

Our SMD5050 Tri-chip LEDs have a rated lifespan of 50,000–60,000 hours. At 12 hours per day of use, that’s over 11 years of operation.

Does lumens output degrade over time?

All LEDs experience some lumen depreciation over their lifespan (typically reaching 70% of original output at the end of rated life). Our high-quality Tri-chip design minimizes this degradation compared to lower-spec alternatives.
