Hexagon Lights Installation
How To Install Your Hexagon Garage Lighting
Assembling your hex lighting can be as easy as one two three.
View the assembly video below for the best experience.
When preparing for installation, it's best to start by building your grid on the floor., this will help you to position your fixture within the space before mounting to the ceiling.
If your hex lighting kit does not include a perimeter then, you will bypass the frame assembly. Start by building your hex grid one column or section at a time, traveling through the grid until the entire hex lighting fixture is fully assembled.

What You’ll Need Before You Start
Before you begin installing your hexagon garage lights, have the following on hand:
·        A clean, flat floor surface for ground assembly
·        A tape measure to confirm ceiling clearance and mounting positions
·        A drill with appropriate anchors for your ceiling material (drywall, concrete, or wood)
·        Wire cutters and a voltage tester if hardwiring
·        A partner — it helps, especially for larger grids
Step-by-Step Installation Guide
Step 1 — Plan Your Layout on the Floor
Build your entire hex grid flat on the garage floor before mounting anything. This lets you see the full footprint, confirm sizing, and pre-route your wiring. Lay bars out column by column, snapping connectors until your grid is fully assembled.
Step 2 — Determine Your Mounting Method
Hexagon Garage lights support three mounting methods:
·        Cable suspension (recommended): Use the Hexagon Garage hanging kit for adjustable height. The push-button cable release makes post-install height adjustments effortless.
·        Direct ceiling mount: Attach mounting brackets directly to ceiling joists or concrete with appropriate fasteners.
·        Frame mount: Use a perimeter frame if your kit includes one for a clean, floating look.
Step 3 — Mark Ceiling Anchor Points
With your assembled grid on the floor below your intended mounting position, mark ceiling anchor points. For cable suspension, place anchors at grid corners and at midpoints on spans longer than 8 feet.
Step 4 — Install Ceiling Hardware
Drill anchors and install hooks or brackets. For concrete ceilings, use masonry anchors rated for at least 3x the weight of your grid. For drywall, anchor into studs wherever possible.
Step 5 — Run Wiring Before Raising the Grid
If hardwiring, route your electrical line to the planned connection point before lifting the grid. Turn off the circuit at the breaker and confirm with a voltage tester before any connections.
Step 6 — Raise and Level the Grid
With a partner, raise the assembled grid and connect cables or brackets. Adjust height and confirm the grid hangs level before tightening.
Step 7 — Connect Power
Connect to your power source (outlet, hardwire switch, or wall plug depending on your kit). Power on and confirm all bars illuminate.
Installation Tips From Our Team
·        Build on the floor first — always. It saves significant time versus trying to assemble overhead.
·        No perimeter frame in your kit? Start your hex grid from one corner and build outward column by column.
·        Dimming control: If you have a standard dimmable kit, no specialized dimming switch is required (dimming is internal)
·        Large grids (20 ft+): Work in sections — assemble one 10-ft section at a time and join them before raising.
Frequently Asked Questions — Installation
Do I need an electrician to install hexagon garage lights?
Our kits are designed to be easy to install. Most customers with basic DIY confidence complete installation without professional help. If your setup requires hardwiring to a new circuit, a licensed electrician should handle that portion.
How long does installation take?
A standard one-car garage kit typically takes 2–4 hours from unboxing to powered on. Larger commercial installations vary by size and ceiling type.
What ceiling types are compatible?
Our mounting hardware works on wood, drywall, and concrete ceilings. Use appropriate anchors for your ceiling material. Contact us if you have an unusual ceiling situation and we’ll advise the best approach.
Can I install hexagon lights outdoors?
Our standard kits are rated IP54 and suitable for covered outdoor spaces like carports and covered patios. They are not designed for full outdoor exposure or direct spray.
My kit didn’t come with a perimeter frame — is that normal?
Yes, many of our kits do not include a perimeter frame. Simply begin assembling from a corner hex panel and build your grid outward without the frame step.
